Process design and calculation of shell-and-tube heat exchanger

- Jan 17, 2019 -

Shell and tube heat exchangers are one of the most widely used heat exchanger types. The process design calculations for heat exchangers mainly include two forms, namely design calculation and calibration calculation, including calculation of heat exchange area and selection.

First, the main purpose of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger process design is to select a suitable heat exchange device according to the set working conditions and heat load requirements, and then determine the specific size of the heat exchanger.

Whether the pressure drop of the shell-and-tube heat exchanger is within the allowable range, the geometry of the heat exchanger can be adjusted at this time, such as the diameter of the heat exchanger, the length of the heat exchange tube, and the number of tubes of the heat exchanger. The calculation is mainly for the calculation of the existing shell-and-tube heat exchanger equipment to check whether it meets the predetermined heat exchange requirements, which is a performance calculation problem of the heat exchanger.

In general, whether it is design calculation or calibration calculation, the required data includes structural data, process data and physical data.
